<p>Hello, I am Bon Prisa Jakobsen, Executive Coach, Corporate Trainer and Online Content Creator.</p>
<p>We have learnt 5 key skills to help us work as a team, most of which are about self-awareness. Now for 6-10, they are going to be about communicating with others.</p>
<h2>6. Understand Other People's Strengths</h2>
<p>Sixth, understand other people's strengths.</p>
<p>Actually, this is quite automatic. If you understand yourself, you'll start to see strengths in other people. Don't just look at what they're not good at.</p>
<p>Imagine if someone tells you, "You don't look so confident when you speak." They would be highlighting a weakness. But if they came up and said "You're such a detailed planner. I really like your work. It's so easy to follow." When someone recognizes your strengths, you are happy to work with them. Who would you prefer to work with? Of course, people who see the good in us.</p>
<p>If we find what each team member is good at, not only do they love us but we will also know, when the team needs specific skills, who to go to.</p>
<p>For example, I have a deadline which requires work to be urgently completed. We need to rush to complete the project. We know that Jang's strength is public speaking. "Jang, You speak so well, please help.". Or a client doesn't like a proposed idea. We need a revision today. We know Bom is a very creative person. Bom, can you help me?</p>
<p>First, they get to do good for the team. Second, they'll be proud to use their strengths. Giving someone the chance to feel proud of themselves is the best gift you can ever give them.</p>
<h2>7. Communication and Teamwork</h2>
<p>The 7th key is communication; communicating with the team to align goals. Where are we today? What direction are we going in? Communication is the most important thing.</p>
<p>Have you ever watched a cooking show? The Chef working in the kitchen is yelling all the time, shouting "the fish is almost cooked, where are the vegetables? How long before we can serve? The gravy must come at the same time!". If they don't communicate with each other, the fish may arrive first, stand around and go dry. The gravy will thicken while it's waiting for the vegetables.</p>
<p>Team communication is essential. It's vital.</p>
<h2>8. Be Responsible For Your Work</h2>
<p>The eighth key is responsibility. Let's say you have all 7 skills so far, but you lack responsibility for your work. You compliment other people's strengths but your own work is never finished. No-one will want to work with you.</p>
<p>So it's really important to be responsible for your own work; to be accountable.</p>
<h2>9. Know Their Language</h2>
<p>Number 9; learn each other's language. Of course, in Thailand our language is Thai, but here we are talking about &ldquo;language&rdquo; in a different context.</p>
<p>For example, one person may be analytical; they hear some news and start analyzing different scenarios; what could have happened. That means this person likes reasoning and evidence. When you talk with them you need to present both valid reasoning and evidence. For example, if you said "I think this idea is better", they will say "OK, but where's the evidence?". So you need to know that they like evidence.</p>
<p>Some people have a lot of empathy and are good at understanding people's feelings. So, when you talk to them, you should use emotional language. For example, "I'm uncomfortable doing this because I'm not good at it". "Uncomfortable" would be the keyword for someone with empathy, because they relate to emotions well.</p>
<p>For some, language may be small things. I've got a friend who works in an organization and she says her boss really likes shredded pork. When she&rsquo;s in meetings with her boss, she brings shredded pork with her.</p>
<p>This is understanding each other's language, by knowing people's likes and dislikes. Trust me, when you talk in their language, the conversation will be easy.</p>
<h2>10. Use Positive Words</h2>
<p>Number 10, the last take home, is to use positive words.</p>
<p>Inject positive psychology into your work. Positive psychology is about using positive words. For example, instead of saying that the result is "awful", lose "awful" in favor of "The results show there's room for improvement". It's more encouraging.</p>
<p>Or instead of saying, "This project is hard", we can change "hard" to "challenging". We can say, "This project is challenging". You feel it when it's spoken, right? It fuels us to do the task.</p>
<p>So try to notice when someone says something that makes you feel empowered. Store those words to use among your team, because these words are the fuel that ignites your team.</p>
<h2>Becoming a Good Team Player</h2>
<p>So these are the 10 keys that will help people on the team love you and you to accept yourself.</p>
<p>It's easy. You just need to know the skills you have that can help the team, including empathy; understanding others. Let other people shine with their skills, be responsible for your work, and reach out to team members when you can. Use positive language among your team, and keep communication flowing all the time.</p>
<p>That's it! The team will be effective and everyone in the team will love each other. You could be the superstar of the team who everyone loves and accepts.</p>

<p>Know yourself. Know your strengths and your weaknesses, to increase teamwork efficiency.</p>
<p>Believe it or not, if you ask someone to name the thing that makes them most uncomfortable at work, most will say it's not the work itself but the people; their bosses or their colleagues.</p>
<p>When we work as a team, there can be communication issues, conflicts of thought or style. But have you ever noticed that person in the workplace who is the popular superstar of the team, and adored by everyone? That person has certain skills. The good news is those skills can be learned.</p>
<p><strong>Hello, I am Bon Prisa Jakobsen. Executive Coach, Corporate Trainer and Online Content Creator.</strong></p>
<p>Most of my work helps people to better understand themselves by knowing their strengths and weaknesses. , including how to talk in public, to help make people become more confident in themselves. I am also an executive coach. This involves building confidence and helping executives reflect and achieve more clarity in leading their respective organizations.</p>
<h2>Identify Your Skills</h2>
<p>Some say those who can communicate well are born with this talent. It's God's gift. I beg to differ. Otherwise, there wouldn't be schools for communication or public speaking.</p>
<p>These skills can be learned. Some may be more lucky than others; their upbringing, their lives, and the environment force them to use their communication skills. That's why they are good at speaking because they have been using that skill. Some families don't really communicate or lack social circles, so they are not good at speaking. That said, skills are there to be developed. I believe in human potential to overcome anything.</p>
<p>Throughout my 10 years of work, training or coaching, what I see in a person who is widely accepted in the team is that they possess common skills. Let me call them the key skills that will make a person work smoothly in a team. We'll talk about those skills here on CI Talks.</p>
<h2>Be the Ultimate Team Player at Work</h2>
<h3>Believe in Teamwork</h3>
<p>First is to believe in teamwork. Why? Your beliefs are your thoughts. Thoughts lead to feelings and feelings lead to behaviors.</p>
<p>Let's say you prefer going solo, you perform when you do things by yourself. How will your behavior be? It's likely you don't communicate, avoid people and work alone. But when you believe teamwork is great and that it'll help you go far, It'll be reflected in your behavior. You will cooperate, talk, consult and will do anything to make the team run more smoothly. Therefore, believing that teamwork is better than working alone is very important.</p>
<h3>Know Your Strengths</h3>
<p>Second is to know your strengths. You need to know what talents you have. These talents need nurturing. Talents that you are born with may not have been realized or developed yet. It means that when you use those skills, you may still have a blind spot. There may be angles that you miss whilst using those skills. Some people are naturally drawn to responsibility. Their blind spot may be overwork and no family time. To overcome these blind spots, you need to understand your talents and transform them into strengths.</p>
<h3>Understand your Strengths</h3>
<p>Third is to understand your strengths. Many don't know their strengths or selling points. There are 3 ways to better understand yourself.</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>1- Ask a friend</strong><br />First, find your strengths via friends and people around you because they see us in ways that we do not see ourselves. They can point out what you do well. For example, they may say you are good at taking care of people and offering advice. You see that your strength is helping others. You can also say that it's empathy; understanding the feelings of others.</li>
<li><strong>2- Review yourself</strong><br />Second is to review and question yourself. Has your skill led to 1) Achievement, 2) Happiness and 3) a desire to use the skill again. Many times I have told people that they need to search for their own strengths. Someone may say, "My strength is cooking.". Cooking is not a strength though. You need to focus on skills, not what you like to do.</li>
<li><strong>3- Take a Strengths Finder Test </strong><br />Third is to take a strengths-finder test. You'll discover your core strengths.</li>
</ul>
<h3>What Skills Do You Bring to the Team?</h3>
<p>Fourth is to realize how your strengths contribute to teamwork. When you know what your strengths are, let's say to immediately execute the tasks, you have a very efficient work ethic. This is what we call Activator.</p>
<p>Once you know that you are that kind of person, you will need to look into your team and see how your attributes can contribute. When there's an additional or urgent project you will be able to persuade the team why you need to do this right now. Those who have the skills to do work quickly will also drive others to start working promptly. It's like being a motivator for others.</p>
<p>Hence, understanding yourself is one thing. But to understand how your skills can add on to the team is how you become well loved by the team.</p>
<h3>Help Others When You Can</h3>
<p>Fifth is about help. Helping others when we can. Because when working as a team, everyone has their own duties.</p>
<p>Let's say you are so overwhelmed with work when suddenly your colleague comes up and asks if you need help. How do you feel? Grateful, thankful and happy right? Even though they may not be able to help much, it's the thought that counts, isn't it?</p>
<p>You can also be that person. Whenever you are done with your work, try walking up to your colleagues and see how your strengths can be of benefit to them. Once you have offered them help, they'll feel thankful and love you more.</p>
<h2>Teamwork is Important for Success</h2>
<p>I think, no matter what, teamwork will not disappear from this world. Even though the situations may require us to be separated, humans are naturally born with the "social brain". We think together, we improve on things together.</p>
<p>According to studies, to solve a problem, working as a team will get a better solution than doing it alone. I feel that humans will always need each other.</p>

<p>I started work at Google Thailand, as Industry Manager, 8 years ago. Over the years, I've had a chance to meet many people and clients, to understand Digital Transformation, and enter the world of digital marketing. 2 years ago, I was invited to become Country Head of Google Thailand.</p>
<p>Google Thailand's mission is to "Leave No Thai Behind", ensuring that we help all Thai people.</p>
<p>We're walking out of the pandemic and entering the endemic era. What we can learn from this crisis is that it has presented an opportunity to learn and adapt ourselves to how the future of work will be.</p>
<h2>Hybrid Workplace Success<br />It's not about where you work, it's about how!</h2>
<p><strong>Hello. I'm Jackie Wang, Country Director of Google Thailand.</strong></p>
<p>It&rsquo;s getting clearer that the future of work is hybrid but what does "hybrid" mean?</p>
<p>Hybrid work is neither working just in the office, nor is it working just at home. What we lack when working from home is the element of magic that is human interaction; building connectivity between people and building connections that go beyond how we can achieve goals together.</p>
<p>These are very important things. But how do we build relationships? This is an unplanned conversation, a spontaneous conversation. I think it's the Magic Source of innovation that drives creativity, both of which are very important elements. It&rsquo;s not that conversations like these can&rsquo;t happen when we&rsquo;re working from home but being together adds something else. Face-to-face connection is still very important.</p>
<p>When we were working from home, we realized the importance of &ldquo;focus time&rdquo;. It is useful and has many advantages. Some think working from home is more productive because there are fewer distractions and less people to disturb you. You can focus on work and spend more time with the people and things that are meaningful and important in your life.</p>
<p>They're in a place where the company listens to them, gives them what they want, accepts them for who they are, and provides for their special needs. We have options for them to choose so they can better focus on their work.</p>
<p>So how can we bring the best of both worlds together?</p>
<h2>The Hybrid Workplace Concept</h2>
<p>There are 3 components that are fundamental to successful hybrid work.</p>
<p>The first element is how technology helps people connect and drive connectivity and productivity.</p>
<p>Another element is people. With people, there is the behavior standard called &ldquo;norm&rdquo; and everyone needs to be aligned with this.</p>
<p>At the heart of "People" there has to be a sharp focus on diversity and inclusion. This is about creating a corporate culture in which everyone feels they belong. The sense of belonging is dependent on many factors such as creating an environment where everyone feels confident and can be themselves, in the office or at home. Both staff members and the organization they work for must have the opportunity to be heard.</p>
<p>The last component is "workplace". How we design our office or workplace needs to be re-thought so that it's suitable for hybrid work. Having understood about social distancing, designs need to consider the overall floor plan and layout; how tables are positioned. Outdoor space could be factored in and better ventilation.</p>
<p>These become elements of the norm that everyone is aligned with. So the workplace itself is another element to think about and adjust.</p>
<h2>Elements of the Hybrid Working Model</h2>

<h2>The Pros &amp; Cons of Hybrid Work</h2>
<p>I see more Pros than Cons in many ways. Hybrid work increases flexibility for your staff members. Also companies have realized that there are more diverse ways to work.</p>
<p>Hybrid work can increase productivity in people who want focus time. They are able to spend more time on what they need to complete. So when they are not in the office, it can be an advantage, a benefit to the company as well. Such employees see that their company trusts them, respects them and gives them what they want. They will focus more on their work.</p>
<p>Moving to the Cons, the main Con is that it's all new and when something is new it's full of unknowns. But this can be a Pro or a Con. What's unseen has an element of excitement. And we can create it together. We can build it together.</p>
<h2>5 Keys for the Future of Work</h2>
<p>I would like to share 5 key takeaways based on how I see work or future of work and key points for you to takeaway.</p>
<h3>1. Turn Crisis into Opportunity</h3>
<p>First, every crisis is an opportunity to learn and improve the organization, the way of working and the approach used to adjust organizations or ways of working. There are 2-3 things.</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Do Not Work as a Single Unit</strong><br />First, involve people from different departments. Do not work as a single unit. Bring people together from many units so that you have a diverse point of view and detailed knowledge to solve the problem.</li>
<li><strong>Use Data to Understand Employees</strong><br />Secondly, we should take a holistic approach taking data points from different sources; data we collect or data derived from a survey To understand our people, team and employees: What is it that they want to tell us? Do they need a vacation? What do they need? We can use this information to adjust benefits.</li>
<li><strong>Use Technology as a Tool</strong><br />Thirdly, use technology to help solve problems, to create a new environment, or to unlock unexpected opportunities.</li>
</ul>
<h3>2. Create a Connected Culture</h3>
<p>Point 2 is about connection. Although not in the office together, staff need to feel connected to the organization and team. It's what keeps them going in a crisis, when they have to stay home. So to build a stronger connection, the team or organization has to have clear goals. We have to create a culture of teaching and learning at the same time.</p>
<h3>3. Add Flexibility to Work</h3>
<p>Third, the future of work is flexible. To move forward to the hybrid model, the organization or leader must promote flexibility among our team and employees. They will have the work-from-anywhere week. That's how we promote flexibility among employees. Let them plan their lives, where and how to spend time.</p>
<h3>4. Focus on Employee Wellbeing</h3>
<p>Fourth, focus on employee wellbeing. In the past two years, mental wellbeing awareness has increased. We have seen many more people searching for information on overcoming "depression".</p>
<p>Burn out rates have increased. This is one of the learnings we can use to discover how we can better support our employees. As an organization and a leader, I can see 2 parts. First, what benefits the organization can give them like extra holidays. Google has Global reset days to give everyone a break and detach from work.</p>
<p>Another area of culture we can adjust to improve staff wellbeing is to build a sense of belonging in our team so members feel glad to work here. They will have a strong supporting network and be able to share their problems whilst feeling safe to talk about them, and being themselves.</p>
<h3>5. Adapt to Change and Never Stop Learning</h3>
<p>Fifth, it's continuous learning and having a mindset that's eager to learn.</p>
<p>The future world is full of uncertainty so we need more flexible skills, to be able to adapt faster and to have resilience. Having a mindset of continual learning is vital to our employees at an individual level, as well as at organization and country level.</p>
<p>I want to encourage everyone to develop a growth mindset. Look at where you need to upskill, or digital skills you don't yet have, or areas where you need reskilling.</p>
<h2>The Future of Work is Here</h2>
<p>The Future of work. I think it's here. Most of you are working in the hybrid model. So if the future of work is hybrid, I think we are in the future right now. But it's just the beginning. We've seen how it looks, know how to form it but I think it's still not perfect. I'd like to invite you all to this experiment to learn together what the future of work will be like.</p>

<p>I have one simple formula to share with you.</p>
<h2>Future Work Skills<br />Future Skills Needed in Your Career</h2>
<p>I interpret acquiring new skills or having a mindset to acquire new knowledge as a simple formula: 1/2g(Y^3)X.</p>
<p style="font-weight: bold;">My Simple Formula:<br /><span style="font-size: 22px;">1/2g(Y^3)X</span></p>
<p>1/2 is your knowledge and 40% of that will be irrelevant next year. What does that mean? Your glass must always be half full, 1/2.</p>
<h2>Y^3 = Y-Shaped People</h2>
<p>Next, let me define Y^3. It's about <strong>Y-shaped people</strong>. You must have deep knowledge in one field. For me, my deep knowledge is startups, but to succeed I must diversify my knowledge and know about other things as well. Continuous disruption changes the world. Things you know deeply become useless but you can use related knowledge right away.</p>
<h2>"Why?" = The Key to Fundamental Truth</h2>
<p>The second Y is to always ask "Why". "Why are they doing that? Why is it like that?". I like to call it the <strong>&ldquo;5 Why's&rdquo;</strong> to grasp and acquire knowledge. Ask "Why" 5 times to understand the problem which is called the fundamental truth, the basic truth of that discipline.</p>
<p>I'll use Elon Musk's case as an example. Imagine you had wanted to build a rocket in the past. It would have almost been impossible actually. Only NASA or big corporations could do that because a rocket would have cost USD1 billion.</p>
<p>But Elon Musk asked the question, "Why does it have to cost USD1 billion?" He questioned until he discovered that actually, of the USD1 billion, 1% was fuel cost and 99% was the single-use rocket.</p>
<p>Do you know what Elon Musk said? Why Not! If that's the case, why don't we make rockets reusable instead of launching rockets to throw away? So he built reusable rockets and greatly reduced the cost of launching rockets. See? Now that the cost has been reduced, people can finally travel in space.</p>
<p>This was made possible by finding <strong>The Fundamental Truth</strong> and First Principle. It's the "Why?", and the "Why not?".</p>
<h2>The "10,000-Hour&rdquo; Rule</h2>
<p>When you learn something new, a <strong>"10,000-hour rule"</strong> is always there. To master new skills, it takes a talented person around 10,000 hours. Is 10,000 hours tough? Yes, definitely! This is the "Y" base, so you also need <strong>"g"</strong> or <strong>"GRIT"</strong>; perseverance and persistence. It's connected to "discipline".</p>
<h2>"X" = Your Network</h2>
<p>Last but not least, the "X" at the end of the formula represents your network. You need to connect the knowledge disciplines, then, and this is vital, connect the right diversity of people and talents. It's said that the scale of your success is determined by your network. The deeper your network of knowledge and the wider your network of people and connections, the more successful you are.</p>

<p>We're living in an era called "Continuous Disruption". It will affect every industry and happen continuously. Compare it to a Tsunami that keeps on coming. That's the analogy of the future of work and environment we have to live with.</p>

<h2>The Rise of New Jobs</h2>
<p>People once said that marketers could never be out of a job, but traditional work is being destroyed and being replaced by new job roles, which are popping-up regularly. Those who seize these opportunities will not just be successful, but will progress further and quicker.</p>
<p>Last year a new job title popped up, and it's a very hot job position: the "Tokenomist" which challenges economists. It's about the economics of "tokens", digital tokens or crypto coins. It&rsquo;s a job for economists who have invested time to learn about Cryptocurrency and who can design economic cryptocurrency mechanisms.</p>
<p>For former programmers there's another hot new job which is the Smart Contract Writer. For someone who is an artist, now there are NFT Artists, and the list goes on.</p>
<h2>Prepare for the Future of Work</h2>
<p>The Future of Work. There is no more Lifetime Employment, no more lifelong employment. It's now about Lifetime Employability, or being employable for a lifetime.</p>
<p>Salaries are set based on your contribution. Employers are happy to pay a daily wage, and you can have several jobs. That's called the Gig Economy.</p>
<p>From now on, employers will look at you as a bundle or package of small skills. They won't care where you graduated from, only about the ability you have, your proven practical experience and the work you have done in the past.</p>
<p>Some skills are grouped as nano skills; a collection of small but current skills. Skills are chosen according to each job. Let's say you have 100 Nano skills. One project may require 15 of your 100 skills. When that job is finished, you move to the next which uses another 15 of your 100 skills.</p>
<p>Sometimes, employers just want to know if you can do the job. It's called Social Validation. For example, the best programmer may not have graduated from a top university, but has written a lot of programs, and their programs have been downloaded and shared umpteen times. Users have accepted and validated them. This is Social Validation. The value of this person is far more than someone who has graduated from a top university. This is a fact.</p>
<p>Another important thing, the future is about being able to &ldquo;Work from Anywhere&rdquo;. So the nature of the Future of Work is global. You can work for any global company from anywhere in the world.</p>
<h2>5 Keys to Acquiring New Skills</h2>
<p>On CI Talks today, I have some tips, tactics and advice on acquiring new skills to share with CI Talks.</p>
<h3>Set Annual Learning Objectives</h3>
<p>First, set your learning objectives each year. Define new skills you want to learn to further yourself to improve your lifelong employability.</p>
<p>I wanted to learn both AI Machine Learning and Advanced Data Analytics. I set a goal to learn these to an intermediate level, and to be able to measure that, I also needed certification.</p>
<p>Set measurable learning objectives each year. That's the first thing.</p>
<h3>Map Your Strategy</h3>
<p>The second thing is what I call &ldquo;Space Exploration&rdquo;. It's mind mapping and plotting what you'll learn and the topics it consists of.</p>
<p>It's like you are on an expedition. You need a map and a GPS, but before the GPS, you need to plan your route and for that, you need a map. For example, I asked myself what my map was to learn AI and I set about researching it.</p>
<h3>Start Sprinting Now</h3>
<p>The third one, I call it &ldquo;2 weeks is 1 sprint&rdquo;.</p>
<p>If 2 weeks is 1 sprint and a year has 52 weeks, we can divide that into 26 sprints. Or you could also have 52 smaller scale sprints. This week I'll learn this, and next week I&rsquo;ll learn that.</p>
<h3>Set a Weekly Learning Plan</h3>
<p>Fourth, have a weekly learning plan and try to keep a routine. Don't try to learn everything in one day.</p>
<p>I studied every Saturday for the entire day and for the rest of the week, didn&rsquo;t study at all. Allocate your time wisely and be disciplined. Fix the time, just like exercising. Do it at the same time each day. This is your brain exercise.</p>
<h3>Be Part of a Like-minded Community</h3>
<p>Fifth, is to join communities of people who are learning the same topics and sharing.</p>
<p>When learning, there's a simple way to test if you have truly understood what you have learned and that is to teach it. If you have thoroughly understood everything, you'll be able to teach it well.</p>
<p>Force yourself to share your knowledge. Sharing is easy. Just record a video on your phone, or share a post on Medium or Facebook. See how many comments your post gets and the questions being asked.</p>
<p>When you do this, the opportunity to learn becomes endless. Sometimes, you will come across problems that you don't understand and can't solve. Your Community may have a solution to share and when they do you will save loads of learning time.</p>
<h2>The Future of Work is Here</h2>
<p>The future of work in the future world, is not actually the future world. Let's refer to it as the present world, because the future is already here.</p>
<p>At least 40% of what you are learning now cannot be used anymore. You need to continually acquire new skills that help you to evolve and to get new jobs that will materialize in the future.</p>

<p>I believe the most important thing is to be passionate. When I wrote my Statement of Purpose to study for my MBA at Stanford, I said I wanted to study at Stanford to learn how entrepreneurship, innovation and technology could change my home country.</p>

<p>Hello. I'm Krating Ruangroj Poonpol, Chairman of Kasikorn Business Technology Group (KBTG) and Founder of 500 TukTuks.</p>
<h2>Ideology in Society</h2>
<p>I was born in Kamphaeng Phet. My parents were both civil servants. My Father was a borderland developer. One thing I got from him is Ideology; doing impactful things for the society even if you have to make huge sacrifices.</p>
<h2>I Set Myself a Goal</h2>
<p>When I was in 6th grade, I had a teacher in Wat Khu Yang school who said that Science and Technology would change the world. I set my goal to be the best in Science and Technology, but how was I going to achieve that?</p>
<p>There was a Science Olympiad competition, so I set my alarm for 4am each day to study Science and Technology for 6 years. Eventually I won a gold medal in the National Physics Olympics and a bronze medal at the Science Olympics. I also got 3rd place in the Thailand Math Competition. This was a first for any Kamphaeng Phet student.</p>
<h2>Surrounded by Smart People</h2>
<p>When I was studying for my MBA (Master of Business Administration) at Stanford, there was a lecturer called Eric Schmidt. He was the CEO of Google. He taught a subject, 5 classes out of 15, in person, himself, the CEO of Google. That's the magic of studying at Stanford and other top universities in the world.</p>
<p>I want to tell you this; try to surround yourself with people who are smarter than you. At Stanford for my MBA, I was the dumbest for 2 years. But looking back, I can tell you that it was the time when I learned the most.</p>
<h2>Work Experience at Google</h2>
<p>Afterwards, I applied for a job at Google. It was tough. I had to pass 9 interviews.</p>
<p>Eventually I was accepted by Google. I managed a product with over 1 billion downloads and it was the first product to capture the history of mankind. It was called &ldquo;Google Earth&rdquo;.</p>
<h2>The Godfather of Thai Startups</h2>
<p>I returned to Thailand in 2012. The whole startup thing was all new then. No one knew what startups were 10 years ago.</p>
<p>I founded a startup academy to start creating startup entrepreneurs. My academy taught Best Practice in building startups and the technical aspects of starting a Startup. After the students have been taught they have the knowledge and know-how.</p>
<p>Then they need practical experience. So I founded a startup incubator company. to invest in those startups, anywhere between 500,000 - 1.5 million Thai Baht as seed capital. We brought in mentors and coaches to help the new entrepreneurs grow and advance to the next step which is Series A funding.</p>
<p>After completing the incubation phase with 500,000 - 1.5 million Baht of seed capital, I heard the inevitable, "Krating, we've run out of funds". So I started a fund to invest in startups. As of today we now have three separate funds. These enable us to build things that are needed which don't yet exist.</p>
<p>The very important thing you need to know; build things that only you can create.</p>
<h2>5 Keys to Success in Life</h2>
<p>On CI Talks today, I will share my thoughts and ideals in life that have got me to this point.</p>
<h3>Set a Vision for Your Life</h3>
<p>The first and most important one. Always have a vision for your life. Having a vision in life is like having a compass which tells you in which direction you need to go.</p>
<h3>Be the Master of Your Destiny</h3>
<p>Second. Always dream big. Don't let anyone influence or determine your destiny no matter how great or successful they are. Don't be told what you can or cannot do but instead, be the one who controls your own destiny.</p>
<p>Never become a victim of someone who is trying to control the voice in your head and your heart&rsquo;s desire.</p>
<h3>Seek Opportunities and Challenges</h3>
<p>Third, The Law of Collision (otherwise known as the Law of Action-Reaction).</p>
<p>I am always seeking new opportunities and running to them. I decide whether something represents an opportunity for me based on its Breakthrough or Break-out potential. I will only get involved in projects that I believe have a 50% chance, or less, of success. Why? Because if the chance of success is more than 50%, it&rsquo;s more than likely old ground with little to nothing to learn.</p>
<p>When the chance of success is low, you'll learn and grow exponentially.</p>
<h3>Do Everything with Passion</h3>
<p>The fourth is passion.</p>
<p>Always do things with passion, the more passion, the better. You'll have days when you want to give up, but your passion will restore your energy and vitality.</p>
<p>When you want to quit, think back to your first day. My first day was when I wrote my Statement of Purpose whilst applying to study for my MBA at Stanford. I said I wanted to learn both at Stanford and Silicon Valley so that I could bring entrepreneurship, innovation and technology back to my home country. These words are the source of my passion.</p>
<h3>Be Disciplined</h3>
<p>The last one, You have got to be disciplined.</p>
<p>Passion without discipline is delusion. You may have the greatest and clearest vision and bottomless passion but if you don&rsquo;t have discipline, no matter how great your vision is, it will remain nothing more than a dream until you inject discipline.</p>
<p>It's all about your discipline. What you do every day, every second, will determine how far you go in life. I hope that you have discipline in each day of your life so that you can genuinely become the very best version of yourself.</p>
<h2>A World of Opportunities</h2>
<p>The modern world in which we live Is a world full of opportunities.</p>
<p>I don't want you to compromise on your dreams. So dream big but also have discipline and have the heart to fight every day. Your life can go far further than you think.</p>

<p>Let&rsquo;s break the formula down into its 5 key takeaways:</p>
<h3>1. Acquire Knowledge Quickly (&ldquo;&frac12;&rdquo;)</h3>
<p>In his explanation of his success formula, Krating kicks off by defining &ldquo;1/2&rdquo;. To win in today&rsquo;s world of constant disruption, you need to view the knowledge and skills you have as being a glass that is always half full.</p>
<p>This, the first part of the formula, is about the need to constantly learn, unlearn and relearn to keep yourself steps ahead of rivals. In his CI Talk, Krating reiterates that 40% of the knowledge you have right now will highly likely be irrelevant in a year's time. To thrive in the future of work, you need to have an appetite for learning and to constantly expand your arsenal of knowledge and skills.</p>
<h3>2. Be Disciplined (&ldquo;g&rdquo;)</h3>
<p>&ldquo;G&rdquo; is for &ldquo;Grit&rdquo; as you are going to need a lot of grit (discipline) to effectively achieve &ldquo;Y^3&rdquo;, the next part of the formula. This is because the "10,000-hour rule" applies when we commit to learning something new.</p>
<p>Krating&rsquo;s specialist area is &ldquo;Startups&rdquo;, more specifically tech startups. This is his area of deep knowledge and expertise that he is continually adding to with new skills.</p>
<p>Your journey to success is going to take discipline, perseverance and persistence. Grit is the backbone of a winning mindset.</p>
<h3>3. Gain Deep Knowledge (&ldquo;Y&rdquo;)</h3>
<p>Next is the &ldquo;Y^3&rdquo; element of the formula which is split into two parts. Firstly, we need to gain deep knowledge in our specific area of expertise and this is represented by the trunk of the &ldquo;Y&rdquo;; your deep knowledge in one field.</p>
<p>The 10,000 hour rule applies when you set about learning to become an expert in a particular field. Once you have achieved depth of knowledge though, you cannot stand still in this world of disruption. You then need to focus on diversifying and expanding your breadth of knowledge and skills in that field for 2 reasons:</p>
<ol>
<li>Knowledge Becomes Irrelevant - In his CI Talk, Krating states that 40% of the knowledge and know-how we have today will be irrelevant in 12 months time.</li>
<li>Guarantee Lifelong Employability - In <a href="https://citalks.com/talk/future-proof-yourself-with-new-skills/video">Episode 4</a> of the Future of Work web series, Krating warned us that the days of lifelong employment have now been replaced by lifelong employability; making sure that we remain employable throughout our working lives.</li>

<p>When we set about gaining deep knowledge, the next phase is to continuously add to the breadth of your knowledge and skills that you offer. This will make you unique, set you apart from the crowd and guarantee your lifelong employability whilst also future-proofing yourself by having the ability to quickly move to alternative skills, as and when required.</p>
<h3>4. Always ask &ldquo;Why&rdquo; (&ldquo;Y&rdquo;)</h3>
<p>Actually, you should ask why 5 times and Krating calls this the &ldquo;5 Why's&rdquo;. The purpose is to get to the &ldquo;Fundamental Truth&rdquo; and the &ldquo;First Principle&rdquo;. This helps you to acquire the knowledge you need to implement change, to innovate and more.</p>
<p>Krating uses the example of Elon Musk asking &ldquo;Why&rdquo; a spaceship cost US$1 billion. When he discovered the answers, he was able to innovate by producing &ldquo;reusable&rdquo; spaceships which cost much less. This solution opened up the possibility of space travel for the masses.</p>
<h3>5. Grow Your Network (&ldquo;X&rdquo;)</h3>
<p>One of the most important things to do in your career is to grow your network, but you need to do this strategically.</p>
<p>Your professional network should consist of the right diversity of people and talent to help you achieve success quickly and efficiently. In the past leaders have said that the scale of your success is determined by your network and this holds true today. The more depth and breadth your network has, the more successful you will be.</p>

<h2>Continuous Business Disruption</h2>
<p>Not a single one of us has been spared the disruption caused by COVID-19 but in its wake, the pandemic has accelerated many former predictions, not least in the future of work and workplace.</p>
<p>We now live in a world and an era of continuous business disruption and that is going to affect us whether our ambitions are to become top employees or successful entrepreneurs; we need to be learning new skills and constantly improving ourselves to guarantee lifetime employability and financial security.</p>
<p>In the context of &ldquo;A World of Disruption&rdquo;, Krating quotes &ldquo;continuous disruption&rdquo;, emphasizing the need for us to prepare for the future of work. He says that Lifetime Employment, Lifelong employment are concepts of the past which have been replaced by Lifelong Employability. But what does employability mean?</p>
<h2>Employability Definition</h2>
<p>The Cambridge Dictionary defines employability as being "the skills and abilities that allow you to be employed: There will no longer be jobs for life, but employability for life". Employability is not just about getting a job, but about continually developing skills and attributes that will enable you to be successful throughout your working life.</p>
<p>Krating describes employability as building a group of nano skills, 100 for example, which gives you the ability to execute a diversity of job types using specific nano skills within the group you have to offer. He cites a few examples in this CI Talk:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>The Tokenomist</strong> - A new hot economics-related job for economists who have invested time to learn about economics in the world of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology; decentralization or DeFi.</li>
<li><strong>Smart Contract Writers</strong> - This is another new hot job for programmers out there who have invested time to also learn the application of programmers in the cryptocurrency revolution.</li>
<li><strong>NFT Artists</strong> - Then there is the emerging NFT niche for artists and graphic designers, some of whom have already made tens of thousands of dollars as NFT artists selling their collections.</li>

<h2>Social Validation</h2>
<p>Krating states that an alarming amount of what we are learning today will have no application in tomorrow&rsquo;s world and that for many of us, where we went to university will become irrelevant. What will be relevant to future employers is your proven practical experience; how your work has been accepted by communities within which you operate.</p>
<p>Imagine a programmer who never attended a big name university but who has written and released apps that have been downloaded by thousands of people. This is social validation. Employability will likely become progressively more conjoined with &ldquo;Social Validation&rdquo;.</p>

<h2>The Catalyst for Change</h2>
<p>Watch "A World of Opportunities" and journey back in time with Krating Poonpol, because his story starts at around 6th grade when he was growing up in the rural province of Kamphaeng Phet in Thailand. He had a science teacher who had no fancy lab equipment or spell-binding experiments to offer to his students, but he did have wisdom and access to bountiful nature which he used to demonstrate and bring life to scientific principles.</p>
<p>That science teacher told Krating that &ldquo;science and technology would change the world&rdquo;. This was the catalyst that inspired Krating and which ultimately took him to study his MBA at Stanford and spend 5 years of his life getting &ldquo;work experience&rdquo; in Silicon Valley with Google. His sole mission in the States, which he admitted when writing his &ldquo;Statement of Purpose&rdquo; for Stanford, was to &ldquo;learn how entrepreneurship, innovation and technology could change my home country&rdquo; - Thailand.</p>
<h2>Startup Academy</h2>
<p>Krating returned to Thailand in 2012 and founded a startup academy to teach his fellow Thais how to start a startup. But, of course, every startup needs seed capital. So he founded a startup incubator company which fuelled his aspiring entrepreneurs with between 500,000 to 1.5 million Thai Baht (US$15 - 45,000) to get their enterprises going.</p>
