Prevention is always better than cure and Dr. Thanyanan Kangvalpornroj (Dr Fern) is on a mission in Thailand to share her knowledge and educate the young generation about sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), contraception, safe sex and more.

Dr. Thanyanan Kangvalpornroj, or Dr Fern, is one of Bangkok’s leading specialists on sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s) and works from Banrak STI Center, Bangrak Hospital. Prior to this she worked as an intern at Banphaeo General Hospital which she arrived at after graduating from the College of Medicine, Rangsit University, Bangkok.
Dr. Fern knew that she wanted to become a Doctor of Medicine but her association with STDs didn't come until after she graduated and was given an opportunity to work in the fields of STI’s and dermatology. As her expertise began to develop she became inspired to share her knowledge in both of the fields with other people. She decided to embrace media to spread the word about sexually transmitted diseases; prevention is, afterall, always better than cure.
In 2019 Dr Fern published a post on Bangrak STI Center’s Facebook page about syphilis. The post was picked up by the local media who started to request interviews with Dr. Thanyanan. One such media company was one of Thailand’s largest production houses who ran a telephone interview. That interview was published online by the media house where it received many hits. They invited the doctor back to talk about STDs on their YouTube channel and soon she became well known.
Since then she has appeared on television shows in Thailand and on many well known YouTube channels. She has also become a public speaker delivering talks throughout Thailand on subjects including:

Dr. Thanyanan Kangvalpornroj continues to focus on and develop her career in the field of STIs and dermatological disease, undertaking research and contributing to various medical publications. Her decision to establish a voice on the subject in mainstream media has had a very positive impact in a culture that traditionally shies away from openly and frankly discussing sexual issues.
